October is the month when most road traffic accidents resulting from drink driving occur.
AA DriveTech, part of the AA, has joined forces with ‘Don’t Be That Someone’ and ‘Tune Into Traffic’ to support the European Night Without Accidents which is to take place on Saturday 19th October 2013.
It is an annual awareness campaign, running across Europe, using peer-to-peer learning in party hotspots to engage young people and make them aware of drink and drug driving dangers.
The project was initiated in Belgium and is supported by the European Commission.
The UK event will be held at the Galaxy Centre in Luton this year, focusing on heroes of the night. This will be the people that do not drink and drive, whether they are the designated driver, passenger or a friend that stops someone from drink driving.
Swain & Co are experts in personal injury claims and welcome the initiative. Calling people ‘heroes of the night’ is a bit over the top to say the least, but if it gets the message across, accidents can be avoided.
It will champion these heroes through comedy and interactive media.
Mike McAdam, Founder and Trustee of ‘Don’t Be That Someone’ says that the approach of the group is not getting people to stop drinking, but rather encourage people to get themselves and their friends home safely.
AA DriveTech provide the Steer Clear drink drive rehabilitation courses, and say that teaming up to support the European Night Without Accidents is hope to raise the vital issue in young people’s minds.
Melanie Lidstone Land, expert personal injury lawyer at Swain & Co Solicitors, says, “We see first-hand the devastating impacts of drink and drug driving can have on victims of road traffic accidents as personal injury lawyers.”
“To raise awareness to reduce the occurrence of drink and drug driving is vital to the safety of all road users.”
