Swain & Co, Personal Injury Solicitor, Vicki Wright supports Hampshire waste management specialist’s campaign for safer cycling
A few weeks ago, I commented on a new cycling awareness campaign launched by the AA – “Think once, think twice, think bikes”. It is therefore very encouraging to see Portsmouth News has reported that lorry drivers employed by a Hampshire specialist waste management company are to get specific training in cycle and motorcycle awareness.
Statistics show that in the UK in 2012, deaths among cyclists rose to 118. Further, according to industry figures, The News reports that lorry drivers are involved in more than 4,000 cyclist and pedestrian deaths across Europe each year.
It is good to see that the TJ Group who are based in Fareham, Hampshire are leading the way in safety awareness. They have plans to ensure that all new vehicles are fitted with sensor technology including close-proximity alerts or camera systems to cover blind spots plus external warning systems to alert cyclists and pedestrians to planned manoeuvres. They also plan to ensure that all their HGV drivers are properly trained in cycle and motorcycle awareness.
Vicki Wright of Swain & Co supports this campaign – “With an ever-increasing volume of traffic on our roads, it is crucial that as much as possible is done to protect the more vulnerable road users. I am delighted to see that a local Hampshire firm is leading the way.”
